Animal Encounters

Have an amazing experience when you get up close and personal with these grand creatures. These guys absolutely love pats and cuddles, and you can watch them chew through their lunch using their serrated mouth – cool as a cucumber!
Package Details
Timing and Days
- One Tortoise encounter is held daily.
- There are only 6 spaces available per encounter.
- Tortoise encounters are held at 12.30pm - 12.50pm
- Patrons need to meet at the information counter 15 minutes prior to encounter.
Bookings
- Bookings need to be made at the Information Desk by 12.00pm on the day of the encounter.
Extras
- A professional photographer will take photos of your encounter. These photos are available for purchase from our photography lab 30 minutes after completion.
Terms and Conditions
- Parents or adult guardians must take responsibility for participating children at ALL TIMES
- As these experiences form part of the tortoises' enrichment program, it will not be a formal session
- All participants must agree to follow all instructions given by the handlers
- Participants may be asked to leave the enclosure at any time during the encounter for whatever reason at the handlers' discretion
- Please ensure that you wash your hands both before and after the encounter
- No personal items or food are permitted during the experience, with the exception of cameras and video cameras. Any excess items can be stored at the information counter for the duration of your encounter
- Please remember that Aldabran Tortoises are extremely heavy, have very sharp beaks and are quite capable of inflicting a serious bite
- Do not under any circumstances attempt to climb or sit upon the tortoises
- Australia Zoo does not take any responsibility for any injuries that are received during the experience, including bites. First Aid will be called if required
- An Australia Zoo photographer will be present during the experience to capture the action. Photos can be viewed and purchased from the Fujifilm Photography Lab
