The Sumatrans Turn Three

31 March 2007

Sunday, the First of April (April Fool's Day), was when the Big Cat Team and the Tigers celebrated the Third Birthday of our three Sumatran Tigers. The "Smarties" as they're more affectionately known, started their day off with a huge breakfast and a long walk in the bush. At Three years, the Sumatrans are considered as being fully-grown and are classed as adult cats. Juma is the largest of our three Sumatrans at 131.4kg, Ranu is 123.2kg and little Singha is 93kg. A large male Sumatran may weigh in at 135kg and a large female may weigh 100kg – which makes Sumatrans the smallest of the five remaining sub-species.The "Smarties" spent their birthday, sleeping, eating, playing with toys and walking in the bush – What can be a better day for a three-year-old Tiger.
