A New Addition to the Birds Of Prey Enclosure
7 July 2006
Archer the Whistling Kite is a new resident of the Birds of Prey Aviary, and we are very happy to see him! Archer has been sent to us from the Bird Show Department to build up his confidence, and he is doing very well with us. We have only had Archer in the lovely, large enclosure for about a week and he has been keeping us all on our toes!
Being a Whistling Kite, Archer is an excellent hunter, making him very quick and agile. He loves to swoop down and grab his food off a log, and he can even catch his food in mid-flight... no matter how bad the throw! Whistling Kites are opportunistic hunters and will take advantage of a free meal, hungry or not, so Archer has been testing all the other birds in the enclosure as well as us. He loves to fly around! From what we can tell, Archer seems to love the new change and we hope it makes him a more confident bird. We can all see that he has great character about him. The birds staff are all still getting to know Archer and we look forward to working with him more. You can see Archer strutting his stuff at the Birds of Prey show daily.
He is always full of enthusiasm and will no doubt put on a good show.
