Tribute to Arjuna

Arjuna, along with his two brothers Khan and Manas, were the first litter of tigers to arrive at Australia Zoo. Being hand-raised since the young age of two weeks, the handlers establish a very close relationship with the tigers. Unfortunately, Arjuna was diagnosed with a respiratory condition at eight weeks of age. This was devastating news to our handlers. The condition could be managed with medication but only for the short term. Medication was started immediately while we closely monitored his quality of life. Arjuna had a life filled with joy and love and after thirteen months he passed away.

He was the baby of the group, but that didn't hold back our mischievous Juny! He was well known for his uncontrollable affection and not only has he touched the hearts of the staff here at Australia Zoo, but Arjuna was also the most popular with the public. Arjuna was afraid of nothing. More confident than his brothers, he was always the first to make new friends or go off exploring!

Arjuna means 'prince charming' and our little prince certainly was charming. With such a big heart and affectionate personality, everybody fell in love with our bright-eyed Juny.

Arjuna lived long enough to celebrate his first birthday with his brothers, with big presents and lots of treats. But soon enough the day came to say goodbye to our baby Arjuna. Sadly on December 18th 2004 he passed away.

Everyone who had the chance to meet Arjuna was left with happy memories and his spirit will continue to live on in our hearts, as he will never be forgotten.
