There is nothing cuter than a joey koala. There- we said it! They're just so gosh-darn adorable! With their fluffy little ears, and perfect little paws; joey koalas are in a cuteness league of their own. But behind every ball of fluff, is one miraculous koala mum! And this week, to celebrate Mother's day- we reckon its mum's time to shine.
Excitement is in the air and we can feel the love beaming down from the tree-tops. After a busy summer, Australia Zoo is now home to seven very proud koala mums; Ash, Mishka, Milla, Ellen, Edna, Alexia and the delightful Mackellar.
As an excited first-time parent, Mackellar has the makings of an absolutely fabulous koala mum. Just like her infamous mother, Matilda, Mackellar is very protective of her joey...and it hasn't even left her pouch yet.
Don't let their sleepy appearance fool you; koalas are dedicated and caring mothers. They nurture their joeys with vital nutrients and a warm safe home for seven months. The hard work begins when their joey ventures out of the pouch - they are full of beans and ready for action! Luckily, the strong bond between mum and joey ensures they are never more than a branch away from each other.
Mackellar's new bundle of joy is fully developed and ready to come out and say "hello" any day now. And with Mother's Day just round the corner, we can't think of a better gift for our first-time mum than a glimpse of her new little joey.
Wondering what to get your mum for Mother's Day? Adopt a gorgeous koala mum! Find out more...

The more I see and learn about these beautiful animals, the more I fall in love with them (if that is at all possible). Learning they are beautiful of heart as well as beautiful to look at makes them even more endearing. If I were ever lucky enough to hold one of these gorgeous animals (unfortunately very unlikely as I won't fly), I know I would find it very difficult to let go. xxxxxxx
